Dermatologists use the ABCDE rule to spot melanoma early — check moles for:

Asymmetry — one half unlike the other
Border — irregular, ragged or blurred edges
Colour — uneven, or more than one colour
Diameter — larger than 6 mm (a pencil eraser)
Evolving — changing in size, shape or colour

Check your own skin regularly and get anything new, changing, itching or bleeding seen early — when caught early, skin cancer is highly treatable.
